What is it

The Knowing and Protecting the Nature Club "The Frolicking Squirrels" was created in 2015 with the aim of learning around the natural space present on the Presqu'île and more specifically on the commune as well as taking concrete action to preserve it. I've been passionate about nature since I was a kid, so I joined when it was created. The club is part of the FCPN, the Knowing and Protecting the Nature Federation, and is attached to the Espace Jeunes. With the help of Isabelle Lenormand, a youth center organizer and amateur naturalist, we went out into the field to observe, record and identify species and environments to be preserved. Once a month or so, we set off to observe one of the commune's environments, which are rich in biodiversity, from ponds to undergrowth, marshes or simply a garden.

My dream of a park by the Regional Natural Park of Brière
2020

The Regional Nature Park of Briere launched in September 2019 on the occasion of the 50 years of the park a contest addressed to 7-20 years where the goal was to imagine the park as we imagine it in 2060. Mesquer being recently in the park, we chose the Bidoué, a waterway that crosses a small wood that offers a lot of different environments, undergrowth, humic areas, aquatic ... So we made a model representing the wood, with its pond and its washhouse. We then made a short film composed of the time-lapse of the realization of the model and representing the current environmental context and our vision of the world in 2060. Thus, the man will have almost all artificialized and only certain places will have been preserved within interconnected domes, technologies (real and fictitious) are used to help the nature this time. We won the 1st prize in the 11-14 years old category (CPN being accessible from 10 years old)!
Constructing and installing chickadee nest boxes
2019
When processionary caterpillars arrived, we knew of no natural predators for them. None at all? No, because deep in our gardens lurked their greatest predator, the great titmice. So we built nesting boxes that allowed us to participate in solving a problem in a natural way. It also allowed us to raise awareness and sell them to the residents in order to earn enough money to buy us observation equipment.
Construction and installation of window swallow nest boxes
2017
Like bats, swallows suffer from human activity, including loss of habitat due to façade harmonization (including attic closures) or vandalism. In addition, since swallows are migratory, providing them with a base for their nest is a non-negligible benefit.
Bat nest box construction and installation
2016
Bats are one of the animals most impacted by human activity: destruction of its habitat, light pollution, fall of insects and therefore of prey... We therefore wanted to react and for this reason we built and installed nesting boxes on the buildings of the commune, such as the technical services, the Rostu salorge, the old presbytery... They have been visited several times!
